Small drones are increasingly becoming a critical tool in military and law enforcement operations across Canada and the United States. Their appeal lies in versatility, low operating cost, and expendability compared to traditional manned aerial vehicles.
In North America, drones are also proving invaluable in domestic applications such as photographing crime scenes and assisting in missing persons cases, where rapid aerial deployment can save time and lives.
Conductive paints provide several critical functions, foremost among them electromagnetic interference (EMI) protection. In mission-critical situations, any interruption in communications between operator/ground control station and drone could compromise mission success or result in a crash.
Conductive paints such as
MG Chemicals' 841AR are well-suited for use as a UAV coating. Engineered for excellent adhesion to plastics commonly used in drone bodies, conductive paints form a conformal, lightweight shield that effectively protects against EMI while avoiding the added weight of solid metal housings.
841AR – Super Shield™ Nickel Conductive Coating – MG Chemicals

This nickel conductive paint for plastic is an EMI / RFI shielding paint consisting of a 1-part, solvent-based acrylic lacquer, pigmented with a highly conductive nickel flake. Unlike diamagnetic fillers such as carbon, copper, or silver that only shield the electric component of electromagnetic waves, nickel is ferromagnetic and shields the magnetic component as well. It is smooth, hard, and abrasion resistant. It can be easily applied by brush or spray. It has a quick dry time, with no heat cure necessary. It adheres strongly to most injection molded plastics, such as ABS, PVC, nylon and polycarbonate. It also provides strong corrosion resistance and is suitable for use in marine environments.
- UL Recognized (File # E202609)
- Provides effective EMI/RFI shielding over a broad frequency range
- Strong corrosion resistance
- Mild solvent system, and safe on polystyrenes
- HAP free—does not contain toluene, xylene, or MEK
- Available in aerosol format
By combining EMI shielding with protective coatings, manufacturers are enhancing drone reliability across both defense and civilian markets.
